Community
Car
The Girgarre Community Car is available to transport community members to medical appointments locally or further afield to Melbourne or Bendigo. All it takes is a call to the Girgarre Cottage with the details, and we arrange the driver. The car is driven by volunteers who will take the passenger to their appointment, wait for them, then drive home again. There is a charge for this service. More drivers are always needed. Full induction is provided and a meal allowance is given to the driver for longer trips. Please call the Cottage on 03 5854 6482 to enquire about becoming a volunteer driver.
Meals &
Socialising
Each week, Girgarre Seniors meet up to socialise and have lunch either onsite at the Girgarre Community Cottage or hop on a bus for an outing offsite. Lovely meals are cooked and delivered to community members that may be ill or incapacitated and confined to their homes. We also organise and cater for special gatherings/events, for example, the Australia Day Awards or Australia’s Biggest Morning Tea. Check out our What's On page or contact us for more details.
General
Assistance
A computer hub is available for use by community members free of cost (except small charges for downloads/printing). We can also assist with any general or computer related tasks.
Community
Garden
The Happy Harvest Community Garden, in the front yard of the Cottage, provides fresh produce available to all community members. The Garden is maintained by volunteers and funded by grants and donations. In our backyard lives The Butterfly Patch; the produce from this garden is used for community meals and food parcels. We are always on the lookout for gardening volunteers.
Container
Deposit Scheme
Girgarre Community Cottage is a donation partner under the CDS. By donating eligible containers to the Cottage, the community benefits from the 10c refund. Follow Girgarre Community Cottage on Facebook or check out CDSVIC.ORG.AU for information on eligible containers
Food
Assistance
We provide food parcels for community members on request. Parcels include a selection of fresh produce, frozen food/meals, pantry items and toiletries. We ask that you ring the Cottage on 03 5854 6482 to book a time for collection.
